Scientific Background
SS-31 (elamipretide) is a synthetic mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide that concentrates at the inner mitochondrial membrane and associates with cardiolipin. In vitro mitochondrial assays and mouse models of oxidative stress and ischemia-reperfusion injury have examined its role in stabilizing cristae structure and reducing reactive oxygen species production.
